10 TV Characters that Changed my Life | Jennifer “Jenny” Schecter
The L Word was a show that broke many rules within American television. Airing for the first time on Showtime Networks in 2004 it’s the only show in American history that focused on Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender women living in California. From the beginning Jennifer “Jenny” Schecter (Mia Kirschner) was a main character in the series. Having moved to California to live with her long-term boyfriend Tim (Eric Mabius) Jenny is rapidly introduced into the large Lesbian culture in her new home town. When she is kissed by a woman named Marina (Karina Lambard) at a neighborhood party, she begins to fight over the guilt for doing that to her long time boyfriend and the feeling that she might have enjoyed it. Soon, Jenny and Marina begin a heated affair culminating in the middle of the first season when Tim catches them having sex. Soon Tim breaks it off with Jenny, which begins her spiral of insanity, selfishness and confusion. Finally, Jenny comes out as a Lesbian and is now a permanent part of a close-knit group of friends. Throughout the series, fans of the show has consistantly disliked Jenny, and Mia Kirschner has even been caught saying “Jenny was just a manipulative, confused liar. I really believe she was evil. I’m nothing like her at all”. In the last season of the show (2008), Jenny is murdered and the killer is still a mystery to viewers of the show.
